The time has come that Whovians have been dreading all year long. Ever since they announced that this would be Matt Smith’s final season as The Doctor, Whovians have been dreading this year’s Christmas Special. Finally, the time has come, and it is time to say goodbye to the Eleventh Doctor.
We are under 30 minutes away from the start of the Doctor Who Christmas Special entitled “The Time of the Doctor”. This will be Smith’s final ride as The Doctor and usher in the era of the Twelfth Doctor, portrayed by Scottish actor Peter Capaldi.
Matt Smith is the youngest actor to ever play The Doctor. When he took the reins for his first full episode on April 3, 2010 he took on a giant burden. He was charged with carrying on a legacy in British television that had been going strong for nearly 50 years. The biggest question was, would Whovians accept him?
Accept him, they certainly have. In his time as the Doctor, Matt Smith has given a completely different twist on the character. He also showed all of us that bow ties and fezzes are indeed cool.
In his three seasons in the TARDIS, he has had to go up against some of the most dangerous enemies that The Doctor has ever faced; everything from the Doctor’s archenemies The Daleks to the Cybermen and the Weeping Angels. The worst of them all, and the ones that stand to be the end of Eleven is The Silence.
The Doctor has faced them all without so much as batting an eye. Unfortunately, it is that courage and undying dedication that will lead to Eleven’s ultimate downfall. How will the Eleventh Doctor meet the end of his journey? We will all have to watch and find out.
While we wait for the Christmas Special to start, here is a look at the BBC America extended trailer for the episode.
It’s time for us to kick back on the couch, brace ourselves for impact, and scream at the top of our lungs…GERONIMO!
The Doctor Who Christmas Special entitled The Time of the Doctor will begin at 9:00 p.m. ET on BBC America.
