Devin Gardner will not play in Michigan's bowl game

Michigan Wolverines’ quarterback Devin Gardner will not play at all in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.

This is according to a Tweet from Nick Baumgardner who covers the team for MLive.com.

With Gardner sidelined with a foot injury, freshman quarterback Shane Morris will likely get the start for the Wolverines. Morris hasn’t started a game in 2013 and frankly, Michigan’s would have been smart to try to get him a redshirt year. He’s filled in for Gardner a few times this season though and enters the Wolverines’ clash with Kansas State having completed 5-of-9 passes for 65 yards no touchdowns and an interception.

Gardner will finish the 2013 season with 2,960 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also ran for 483 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Michigan is surely losing a bunch of athleticism at the quarterback position as well as a plethora of experience. Many do think Morris is the future of the football program, but he hasn’t shown anything yet that would suggest he’s ready to take over this week.

The Wildcats and Wolverines square off in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl this Saturday at 10:15 p.m. EST.
