Chicago Bears defensive lineman Henry Melton was arrested and charged Sunday with misdemeanor assault and public intoxication after an arrest at  a sports bar in Grapevine, Texas. All of that stems from a bar fight where Melton allegedly “punched the restaurant manager in the face and bit him on the arm,” according to police.

Not so surprisingly, Melton’s agent Jordan Woy is downplaying the incident and professing his client’s innocence.

“After investigating the matter, Henry Melton did not physically start any altercation that evening,” Woy said in a statement issued earlier this week, via the Chicago Tribune.  “We have had several independent witnesses contact us separately to corroborate this.  We plan to defend Henry in this matter and we will determine if we will bring any causes of action on his behalf.”

In the meantime, Melton is still trying to recover from a knee injury. Melton is also a free agent this spring and it will be hard for him to overcome some of these hurdles in finding a  deal.
