Houston Rockets confused about Omer Asik's injury

The soap opera that is Omer Asik has taken yet another strange turn, this time due to injury.

Asik, who requested a trade from the Houston Rockets earlier this season has now come down with a knee injury which has the team befuddled.

The Rockets, who’ve been attempting to trade the big man have taken MRI’s of Asik’s injured knee, all of which have returned clean yet the center continues to have swelling in his knee any time he touches the floor:

Asik has repeatedly been able to make strides and greatly increase workouts, but each time he seems close to being able to return, the swelling in his knee returns. The Rockets sent him for the more detailed MRI last week, but it showed no damage to the knee. They have sent those test results to another expert, hoping to get a better idea of why the problem remains so persistent.

At least on the surface, this seems to be a legit issue and not a coverup for issues the two sides may have with each other.

Frankly put, the Rockets have nothing to gain by having Asik sit out games nor does Asik have anything to gain from missing time.
