Russia unveils uniforms for Sochi Olympics

In a ceremony at a shopping center in Red Square on Thursday, Russia unveiled the team uniforms that will be worn by its athletes at the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. RIA Novosti has a photo gallery for those interested.

Alexander Zhukov, the head of the Russian Olympic Committee, explained why he likes the uniforms:

I like the fact that the uniform’s bright and recognizable. There’s continuity with the uniforms from past Olympics, and there’s quality. The athletes who tested the gear noticed that.

The Russian team uniforms certainly aren’t as eye-catching as what will be worn by the volunteers and staff members working at the Sochi Games:


And, of course, the Russian unis pale in comparison to the rainbow attire that will be sported by the German athletes:
