Once news of Penn State Nittany Lions head coach Bill O’Brien approaching school officials and asking them to lower his buyout clause leaked out, names of potential successors came out just as quickly.
One of those names was a bit of an obvious one. It was reported that current Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak had either reached out to his former school himself, or had one of his representatives reach out on his behalf.
According to the Tennessean, though, Munchak is stating that he did no such thing, and hasn’t reached out to his alma mater at all:
“I did not reach out to anybody, and nobody did on my behalf. And I don’t have an agent,” he said. “They have a coach there, and I have a job here. So it’s just not true. I don’t think there is any merit to any of the three of us, I’m sure.”
Munchak is currently on a hot seat in Tennessee, as the team is 6-9 heading into the final week of the season and are out of any sort of playoff contention.
So if Munchak indeed hasn’t reached out, he may be doing so very soon, also assuming that O’Brien does bolt for the NFL.
