2013 Military Bowl: Marshall vs. Maryland game preview, odds and prediction

The 2013-2014 college football bowl season keeps rolling along on Friday, and the action begins with the 2013 Military Bowl featuring a match up between the 7-5 Maryland Terrapins of the Atlantic Coast Conference and the 9-4 Marshall Thundering Herd of Conference-USA.

After getting off to a pretty hot start to 2013, going 5-0, the wheels fell off after a 63-0 loss to the Florida State Seminoles. They lost four of their next six games, but they were able to finish off the season strong with a win over N.C. State.

This will be the final game for the Terrapins as a member of the ACC before they head off to the Big Ten in 2014.

Marshall rode their way through the regular season to a 9-3 record, including winning their last five. However, in the Conference-USA Championship Game, they were defeated handily by a much more athletic Rice Owls squad.

A big win over a member of the ACC, though, would make for a nice way to end what was otherwise a successful campaign for the resurgent Thundering Herd.

Date: Dec. 27

Start Time: 2:30 PM ET

Location: Annapolis, MD

Stadium: Navy Memorial Stadium

Live Stream: WatchESPN app

Odds: Marshall -3

Prediction: Marshall quarterback Rakeem Cato may be one of the best quarterbacks in the country that you don’t know about. You will after this one. The Maryland secondary has struggled mightily at times throughout the season, and this should be a coming out party for Cato and his squad on the national stage.

Marshall 35, Maryland 21
