Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson misses practice on Friday
By Jack Crosby
The Detroit Lions’ disappointing 2013 campaign will end this Sunday following their scheduled game with the division rival Minnesota Vikings. They were eliminated from playoff contention after their loss last week. As far as something to play for, they can at least finish the season at 8-8. That’s pretty much about it.
To do that, they’ll more than certainly need franchise star Calvin Johnson on the field. After Friday, though, that seems a bit up in the air after DetroitLions.com reported that MegaTron missed the team’s last practice of the season on Friday.
On the year, Johnson 1,492 yards on 84 catches with 14 touchdowns. He’s played the majority of this season, as the team fought for playoff contention, dealing with a nagging knee ailment.
A move of just sitting Johnson this weekend would make sense, and probably should be the direction Lions ownership should go. Johnson is the cornerstone of not only the offense, but the entire franchise.
If they plan on showing head coach Jim Schwartz the door after Sunday, which has been rumored, then you want your star at 100% heading into next year for whomever you choose as a replacement.
