Earlier this week, the entertainment world lost another family member. According to Variety, Writer/Producer Jeff Pollack was found dead on a running trail in Hermosa Beach, California on Monday, December 23rd. He was 54 years old.
According to EasyRiderNews.com, Hermosa Beach Police Department Captain Tommy Thompson says that Pollack was already deceased when his body was found. There was no sign of foul play.
“It’s still unknown how he died, we’re not sure if it was a heart attack,” Thompson said. “But there were no signs of foul play.”
Early in his career, Pollack teamed with fellow writer/producer Benny Medina to create the format for the show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, a story where the main character, played by Will Smith is based off of Medina.
According to Deadline, Pollack and Medina were not just business partners, but incredibly close friends. Medina issued a statement to Deadline regarding the passing of his friend.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must bid farewell to my dear friend, Jeff Pollack.” Medina said. “Jeff was a talented writer, director, producer and entrepreneur… but he would say his greatest accomplishment was his two children, Lael and Logan, to whom he was an amazing and devoted father. He was my partner, but first and foremost, a great and loyal friend whom I loved dearly. Gone too soon, I will miss him.”
Pollack also directed movies like Above the Rim starring Tupac Shakur, Booty Call starring Jamie Foxx, and Lost & Found starring David Spade.
