Louisville Cardinals linebacker George Durant won’t play in bowl game

Louisville Cardinals head coach Charlie Strong confirmed in a press conference on Friday that George Durant, one of Louisville’s starting linebackers, won’t play against the Miami Hurricanes in the Russell Athletic Bowl on Saturday.

Durant, a fifth-year senior, hinted at the situation earlier in the week, tweeting “I wish my team the best on Saturday. Y’all boys pull off the victory.”

The linebacker from St. Petersburg, Florida, finished the year with 16 tackles. A former walk-on, Durant recorded 37 tackles and forced a fumble in 2012.

Strong, who said Durant is the only Louisville player not slated to play on Saturday, did not provide a specific reason as to why Durant won’t be on the field. The linebacker was arrested for speeding back in October, but he played in multiple games for the Cardinals since the incident.

Coverage of the Russell Athletic Bowl is scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m. ET. You can catch the game on ESPN.
