Martin Havlat has lower-body injury, out for San Jose Sharks

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

Martin Havlat missed the beginning of the season for the San Jose Sharks , and didn’t make his season debut until October 30. It  now appears that the oft-injured forward will be back on the IR with a lower-body injury of some kind. He hasn’t played since December 21, and missed December 23′s contest against the Colorado Avalanche.

Typically losing a guy that’s used mostly as a depth forward wouldn’t be a major issue for the Sharks, but the team is already without Tomas Hertl for the foreseeable future. Now San Jose will be down two forwards that are capable of being difference makers on a nightly basis.

Havlat is far removed from his days as a 20 or 30 goal scorer, but he still has enough talent to make an impact on any given night. He’d started to pick up his play recently with three points in his last five games, but was once again cut off by an injury.

This is just another setback in what has been a very disappointing stretch for the forward as a member of the Sharks. He missed a majority of the 2011-12 due to injuries, and has scored all of 18 goals in three season with San Jose.
