The day is finally here. Voting for the Nominations for the 2014 Academy Awards officially opens up on December 27th.
Now, it is the hands of the Members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, who are invited to cast secret ballots for their favorite works of film from the past year until January 8, 2014.
There are many films that have been generating Oscar buzz this year.
One of the top contenders is Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity. The film was not only embraced by critics, but the general public as well. The interstellar epic earned $253.7 million at the Box Office so far this year, and if you add in the numbers from the foreign Box Office, it has earned over $652 million worldwide.
Another film to look for is David O. Russell’s American Hustle. Not only has the film been well-received by the critics and the general public, but has already garnered 7 nominations for the Golden Globe Awards, which we all know are a precursor to the Oscars.
An unlikely actor who has been receiving a lot of buzz this year is Joaquin Phoenix for his portrayal of Theodore in the film Her. Another actor to be on the lookout for is Tom Hanks from his portrayal of Captain Richard Phillips in Captain Phillips to his portrayal of the legendary Walt Disney in the film Saving Mr. Banks.
Nominations for the 86th Annual Academy Awards will be announced on January 16th.
The show, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, will be aired live on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
