The combination of Taylor Hall, David Perron and Ryan-Nugent Hopkins will persist for the Edmonton Oilers for at least one more game. Head coach Dallas Eakins pieced the trio together last Monday against the Winnipeg Jets, and the team dominated, going on to win via a 6-2 final.
Why mess with a good thing then?
Eakins will keep the trio together for tonight’s contest against the Calgary Flames, according to Jim Matheson of The Edmonton Journal. Perron spoke to Matheson about playing with Hall and dealing with his speed yesterday, and had this to say:
There were a few times where I was caught off-guard, he was so far ahead. I put (the puck) in his skates… but it was a fun experience.
David wins a lot of battles. Usually when you play with a guy, you want to help him on the one-on-one battles, but with David you just want to get open.
The two connected for a goal against Winnipeg, and played an important role in helping Edmonton snap a six-game slide on Monday, and there’s no reason to believe that Eakins will shake up his lines if the team continues to win. The contest against Winnipeg marked the first time that the three players skated together since Perron arrived via trade in July.
