Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer has decided to start Elton Brand in place of injured center Al Horford.

On Thursday night, Horford suffered a torn pectoral injury, which has him out indefinitely.  Horford is averaging 18.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists as the center for the Hawks.  Elton Brand is only averaging 11.3 minutes per game this season, but he is a career 17.1 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest player.  Brand will be a decent replacement for Horford, but his age, 34, will not allow him to put up big numbers.

DeMarre Carroll is a game-time decision, and he is another player who can fill in for Horford.  Carroll is averaging 9.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

The Hawks play the Charlotte Bobcats at 7:30 pm ET.  The game will be played at Phillips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

Atlanta is 16-13 this season, and safely in the playoff hunt at third place in the Eastern Conference.  However, the Hawks will want Horford back in order to continue pursuing a high playoff seed.
