Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard says he doesn't have back injury

The Houston Rockets beat the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday with center Dwight Howard riding the pine for the fourth quarter, leading some to suggest the big man is having back pain.

The injury wouldn’t be new to Howard who has dealt with a hefty amount of back and shoulder injuries throughout his career, including last season in Los Angeles.

Howard though said sitting had nothing to do with his health, simply suggesting foul trouble played into his limited role:

Howard laughed off question about stiff back Thur. Said was stiff from sitting on bench. “That’s what happens when you get in foul trouble.”

The Rockets big man did have a point as he played the vast amount of the third quarter in foul trouble and ended the night with five fouls in just 18 minutes of action.

For now, it seems to be a bit of a non-issue though there will certainly be extra eyes on Howard in the coming days just to make sure there are no lingering injury concerns.
