NBA Trade Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers don't want to trade Pau Gasol?

It seems as if Pau Gasol hasn’t been comfortable in Los Angeles for a few seasons now, likely because he continues to hear his name pop up in trade rumors.

The rumors have been as strong as ever this season, likely stemming from the team’s poor play, the lack of Kobe Bryant and Gasol’s impending free agency. That said, Yahoo Sports’ Marc J. Spears doesn’t believe the Lakers will move their power forward, suggesting they have little to benefit from a trade:

By moving Gasol, you’re probably going to have to get some money back on a contract. I don’t think they want to do that. And if they continue to be bad, they’re going to have a great chance to get a high pick in the draft….

I think Pau Gasol stays.

Spears makes a few solid points, especially regarding the financials as the Lakers currently (even with Bryant re-signed) have space for a potential max player in free agency. Of course, they’d need to fill out the rest of their roster with minimum contracts and/or trades but trading Gasol would certainly tie up funds for next season.

They got rid of Drew & picked up a loser in D12. Bad move on the front office. D12 left & they got ZERO for him. (Two strikes) Now they want to let Gasol walk at seasons end & get zero for him, that my friends in STRIKE THREE & the front office needs to go. As if the above were not enough, they got a horrible coach, they got a crippled Nash so please BUSS family, remove Jim from his position & bring in Jeannie.

I don’t blame them for taking a chance on Howard. How were they to know he was such a moron? Bynum played zero minutes last season and has already gotten in trouble in Cleveland. He’s a headache no one needs..I don’t think trading Gasol makes sense from a financial point of view. They will probably try to re-sign him. Most objective people don’t view D’Antoni as a horrible coach, and no one knew Nash was going to break his leg and have nerve issues because of it. I doubt that the Buss family has the power to remove Jim, and what makes you think Jeanie knows any more about basketball than Jim? Dr. Buss didn’t want Phil Jackson running the FO.They did a good job bringing in players in the offseason with very little cap space. It’s not time to panic. There will be other players brought in through free agency in the next few years, and if a coaching change is needed they’ll make one. All teams have to rebuild at times. The Lakers are no exception.

We can say whatever we want BUT the bottom line here is very clear….The Lakers front office has made some really bad deals in the past few years…(Think Malone/Peyton) They brought in an often crippled Nash, they lost Drew basically for nothing, they lost D12 for nothing, they gave Kobe $48,000,000 & they hired TWO very bad coaches…. Now I have zero clue WHO in the front office did all of the above BUT whom ever it was NEEDS to GO bye bye……. There will be very few free agents coming out at seasons end now, the real super studs will be available the following year… The Laker have a NEED TO A TOTAL STARTING 5 since they have a great bench already…#1 is a TRUE point guard, a K, Irving/J. Wall, K. Walker, D. Lillard type… They then need a true center, one like Monroe (defense) or a B. Lopez (offense), then a wing like Harrison Barnes & players like Lamb, Beal, K. Thompson (Take Kobe’s spot’s & so on…. We NEED DRSFT picks as well as money to get them all together in the season after next….
