The Notre Dame Fighting Irish enjoyed a win in the 2013 New Era Pinstripe Bowl on Saturday against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Following their ninth win on the season, it’s now time for the team to look ahead to 2014.
One of the pressing issues that needed to be addressed was replacing defensive coordinator Bob Diaco, who will be taking over as the head coach of the Connecticut Huskies next season.
Following the win over Rutgers this afternoon, head coach Brian Kelly let it be known that a hire was near happening. He also stated that the new person in charge of the Irish defense would come from outside the program.
Well, he wasn’t lying, as we now know who the new Notre Dame defensive coordinator will be, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport.
It will be New York Jets linebacker coach, Brian VanGorder:
#Jets LB coach Brian VanGorder (and longtime college assistant) is heading to Notre Dame to be its defensive coordinator, per source.

This puts Notre Dame in a good position going into next season, having the hire done so quickly.
