Villanova at Syracuse: game preview, odds and prediction

On Saturday, two former conference foes will take the court against one another before the new year hits when the second-ranked Syracuse Orange welcome in the Villanova Wildcats into the Carrier Dome.

Syracuse is in their first year as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. So far, even though they have yet to play a game in the conference, the Orange have looked the same as ever, beginning the 2013-2014 campaign undefeated at 11-0 on the season.

They’re led into this one by star guard C.J. Fair, who’s been on fire to start this year, averaging 17.8 points per game.

Villanova, under head coach Jay Wright, remains in the Big East where they’ve also started their year unblemished at 11-0. It’s the program’s best start under Wright since he’s been in Philadelphia.

‘Nova has knocked off two ranked teams thus far in this young season in the Kansas Jayhawks and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Date: Dec. 28

Start Time: 2 PM ET

Location: Syracuse, NY

Arena: Carrier Dome

TV Info: CBS

Odds: Syracuse -4

Prediction: There are going to be a lot of teams in the ACC this season that won’t be used to playing in the atmosphere of the Carrier Dome, thus creating a huge advantage for Jim Boeheim and crew.

We know that won’t be the case today, as this Villanova team knows exactly what they’re walking in to.

Already averaging 82.5 points per game, look for JayVaughn Pinkston to give that normally tight Syracuse defense fits today.

Villanova 83, Syracuse 78
