The San Diego Chargers trailed for most of the game on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs, including a 10-point deficit entering the fourth quarter at Qualcomm Stadium.

But, Philip Rivers and running back Ryan Mathews engineered two late drives that resulted in an Eddie Royal touchdown catch and a Nick Novak 22-yard field goal, respectively, to tie the game and send it to overtime.  Kansas City missed a potential game winning field goal that left just 4-second on the clock in regulation.

Rivers and the Chargers drove down in their first possession of the extra period and managed another Novak field goal, this time from 36 yards out and the pressure was on the Chiefs and backup quarterback Chase Daniel to either tie it, or put in the game-winning touchdown.

The Chargers drive took an impressive 16 plays, 62 yards and 9:30 off the clock.

Daniel drove the Chiefs – who were playing with several backups in this game – down to the San Diego 41-yard-line but his final attempt to extend the drive on 4th-and-15 failed and the Chargers clinched the AFC’s 6th seed in the playoffs.

Check out the GIF below, where clearly Daniel was over the line of scrimmage anyway.  The incompletion was moot.

Rivers finished with 229 yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception on 22-of-33 passing and Mathews finished with a game-high 144 yards on the ground on 24 carries.
