The New York Jets are not playing for a playoff spot but the Miami Dolphins are, even if it doesn’t come across that way early on in their final regular season game. The Jets are potentially playing for Rex Ryan’s job but their mainly playing spoiler today and so far Geno Smith has looked the part.
His late touchdown run in the first half helped the Jets get a 14-7 halftime lead over the Dolphins but it’s hard to tell who deserves more credit for the score. Smith no doubt hustled his way into the endzone but the Dolphins defense, the one trying to earn a playoff spot, was gashed in the redzone in embarrassing fashion.
Miami hasn’t looked like a playoff favorite and won’t likely make it far if they get in, but the way the defense has played today so far getting into the postseason is more of a pipe dream than we thought.
