Mike Shanahan will apparently be coaching his final game for the Washington Redskins today as it’s being reported by the Washington Post that Shanahan is expected to be fired, likely either Sunday night or Monday morning.

"Mike Shanahan is expected to be fired as coach of the Washington Redskins, multiple people familiar with the situation said. One person with knowledge of the matter said Sunday that Shanahan “definitely” will be dismissed and the only question is whether the move will come Sunday night or Monday.Another person with ties to the organization said Saturday night the move was certain and is expected to come Monday."

The presumed firing doesn’t come as much of a shock considering rumors have swirled for weeks that Shanahan would be let go at season end.

Shanahan is in the fourth year of a five year contract, so barring some fine print, it’s likely the Redskins will be forced to pay the coach next season despite not coaching the team. It was reported earlier in December that owner Daniel Synder was looking for a way to get out of paying the coach the final year of his deal.

Sunday’s result not included, Shanahan will have lead the Redskins to a 24-39 record during his four year tenure at the helm.
