‘Captain America’ Empire Magazine Gives Us a Closer Look at ‘The Winter Soldier’

It was just last week that Empire Magazine unveiled the cover of their February issue which is set to feature our favorite genetically altered boy scout, Captain America. Today, the magazine unveiled four new stills from the film that will be featured in that very same issue.

The first still gives us a look at a very ominous looking Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans. It is a growing trend that sequels will take on a much darker feel than their predecessors. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is no different. They have moved away from Cap’s patriotic red, white, and blue outfit for a much darker gray suit.

In the film, Rogers is having difficulty adjusting to life in the modern world. More so, he is having issues with the way that things are done within the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. Unfortunately, the situation doesn’t get much better when he is forced to come face-to-face with a memory from the past that has suddenly taken on a very new face.

Next, we get one of our first looks at Alexander Pierce, who is played in the film by Academy Award winner Robert Redford.

I think it is safe to say that Pierce looks less than amused with S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, in the new still. One can only imagine what Fury may have said in order for this to take place.

In the third still, it would seem as if things are going from bad to worse for Natasha Romanoff, also known as The Black Widow, who is played in the film by the lovely Scarlett Johansson. We see her in what looks to be a potentially compromising position, as she is running, pistol in hand, from some unknown entity; which I think it is safe to assume is probably the Winter Soldier.

Speaking of The Winter Soldier, that is our fourth and final still.

The picture shows the much darker Winter Soldier, who is actually Steve Rogers’ best friend Bucky Barnes, who has been brought back to life and altered into The Winter Soldier by the Russians. Sebastian Stan will be returning to his role as Bucky Barnes, and now The Winter Soldier.

It looks as if the defender of all that is good is going to have his hands full with the new enemies being brought before him.  Thankfully, he will have some very skilled friends to help him along the way.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier also stars Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, Frank Grillo as Crossbones, Anthony Mackie as The Falcon, Domenic Cooper as Iron Man’s father Howard Stark, and many more.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is scheduled to be released on April 4, 2014.
