Arizona Wildcats head coach Rich Rodriguez announced this weekend that backup quarterback Javelle Allen has been dismissed from the team. Rodriguez did not elaborate on what caused Allen to be dismissed, only saying it was a violation of a team policy.
Allen, a freshman out of Prosper, Texas, appeared in a handful of games for the Wildcats this season. He attempted only one pass, but he did average 9.9 yards per carry. His lone touchdown came on a 61-yard run against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks in the first game of the year.
Rodriguez said that either sophomore Nick Isham or junior Jesse Scroggins will be the backup for starting quarterback B.J. Denker in the upcoming AdvoCare V100 Bowl. Neither of the two played an offensive snap in 2013.
The AdvoCare V100 Bowl — that name rolls right of the ol’ tongue, doesn’t it? — between the Arizona Wildcats and the Boston College Eagles will be played on Tuesday, Dec. 31. ESPN’s coverage of the contest, which features two of the best running backs in college football in Ka’Deem Carey and Andre Williams, is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. ET.
