Ever since Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson burst onto the scene after being a third round pick out of Wisconsin, teams in the NFL have been searching for the next diamond in the rough who could come close to replicating what he has done in his first two NFL seasons.
According to Matt Miller from Bleacher Report, the next Russell Wilson could be Arizona State Sun Devils signal-caller Taylor Kelly.
“The junior quarterback wasn’t on my 2014 radar until an area scout tipped me off on his game this week. After charting three games, it’s tough to not like Kelly’s accuracy, mobility and poise. While not expected to declare for this year’s draft, Kelly is worth watching for future classes.”
The 6-2, 203-pound junior has a couple extra inches on Wilson and was instrumental in the Sun Devils finishing the regular season with a No. 14 ranking, 10-3 record and a berth in the National University Holiday Bowl vs. the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Kelly orchestrated the No. 9 scoring offense this season after throwing for 3,510 yards and 28 touchdowns. he has thrown 57 touchdowns to 20 interceptions the past two seasons and assuming he returns for his senior season should find himself on a number of preseason Heisman watch lists.
Perhaps he will end his college career in the same stadium Wilson did.
The Rose Bowl.
