In what may have been the final outing for Heisman winner Johnny Manziel, we were treated to one of his more epic performances on Tuesday night to close out the 2013 calendar year as he and his Texas A&M Aggies fought back from a huge deficit to defeat the Duke Blue Devils in the 2013 Chick-fil-A Bowl, 52-48.
With under four minutes to go in the game and his team down by three, Aggies defensive back Toney Hurd Jr. picked off Duke QB Anthony Boone and returned it 55 yards to the end zone for what would be the game-winning score. On the ensuing drive, the A&M defense–which had been absolutely horrendous throughout the evening–intercepted Boone once again to seal the deal on the comeback.
The first half was owned by Duke as everyone watching around the country gazed in shock as the team from the ACC Coastal Division built themselves a huge lead against their SEC opponent.
But after the half, this A&M team got everything together and were able to come back for the eventual victory.
If this was his final performance of his collegiate career, Manziel was unbelievable once again. The redshirt sophomore finished the night with 382 yards on 30-of-38 passing with four touchdowns and no interceptions.
Because he is who he is as well, he was stellar on the ground too, leading the team with 73 yards on 11 carries with a score.
Yes, on the night in this epic comeback from being down 38-17 at the half, Manziel ended up accounting for five touchdowns.
If this was the final outing, it was one last one to remember.
