Tuesday afternoon brings us one of the New Years Eve traditions as the Hyundai Sun Bowl will take place, featuring a match up between the Virginia Tech Hokies of the Atlantic Coast Conference and the UCLA Bruins of the Pac-12 Conference.

After a disappointing 2012 season, many were looking for Virginia Tech to bounce back in a big way, especially with senior quarterback Logan Thomas coming back for one final run. Well, they were able to get two more wins than 2012 and finish at 8-4 on the year, but with a weak Coastal Division, everyone was looking for at least an appearance in the ACC Championship Game, which didn’t happen.

UCLA finished the year at 9-3 and came dangerously close to winning the Pac-12 South, but they just couldn’t overcome the Arizona State Sun Devils down the stretch. The main question for the Bruins in this one is whether or not this will be the final time that QB Brett Hundley dons the UCLA uniform, as he’s been mulling over entering the NFL Draft.

Date: Dec. 31

Start Time: 2 PM ET

Location: El Paso, TX

Stadium: Sun Bowl

TV Info: CBS

Odds: UCLA -7.5

Prediction: Coming into this one, the Hokies are decimated by injuries. They’ll be without both starting cornerbacks in Antone Exum and Kyle Fuller, and running back Trey Edmunds.

That’s way too much to overcome against an very talented UCLA team, and too much for Thomas to handle all by himself.

UCLA 42, Virginia Tech 24
