Florida State Athletic Director Stan Wilcox addresses Jimbo Fisher contract extension, Texas rumors

On Tuesday, just six days before the Florida State Seminoles will play the Auburn Tigers in Pasadena for the BCS National Championship, the school announced that they signed head coach Jimbo Fisher to a five-year, $20.5 million contract extension that will carry the FSU leader through 2019.

Obviously, this news was quite notable due to the fact that it’s been heavily rumored lately that Fisher was at the top of the list of the Texas Longhorns to take over their program following the departure of Mack Brown.

Now, while that possibility still exists that Fisher could go to Austin, Texas would have to reach much deeper in their pockets to get him.

Tonight, Florida State athletic director Stan Wilcox spoke to Ralph Russo of the Associated Press about the contract extension his coach was given, as well as the Texas situation as it stands right now.

It certainly seems, at the very least, that the Seminoles AD is very confident that Fisher will not be going anywhere.
