Early on Tuesday afternoon, rumors began to swirl that LSU Tigers defensive tackle Ego Ferguson could be looking at a suspension from the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day. Late Tuesday night, the rumors became fact as Nola.com is reporting that Ferguson is indeed suspended for the Outback Bowl and will not be on the field for the Tigers when they take on the Iowa Hawkeyes.
LSU junior defensive tackle Ego Ferguson did not travel with the team and will not play in LSU’s Outback Bowl game against Iowa Wednesday, a source close to the situation said Tuesday.
The school nor the source in the story gave an explanation or a reason for the suspension, but the blow will be a significant one to the Tigers defensive line presence. Ferguson currently has 58 tackles on the season for LSU, which ranks fifth on the team, and he’s been getting some NFL Draft attention as well.
Ferguson will likely be entering the NFL Draft this upcoming spring, which means he has already played his final game with LSU. There was some hope that Ferguson would be allowed to play int he Outback Bowl, but that no longer seems to be the case.
The Ferguson-less LSU Tigers will take on the Iowa Hawkeyes on ABC on New Year’s Day afternoon.
