NBA trade rumors: Lakers ‘deep’ in talks to trade Pau Gasol for Andrew Bynum?

Early Tuesday morning, news broke suggesting the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers were talking about a potential trade which would swap Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum.

Hours later, it’s being reported that the trade talks are now ‘deep’ by Fox Sports’ Sam Amico:

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers are deep in talks about a trade that would swap Cavs center Andrew Bynum for Lakers big man Pau Gasol, sources from both sides told FOX Sports Ohio on Tuesday.

Gasol is a free agent at season end though may not be back as Los Angeles would likely prefer to spend their cap space elsewhere. Meanwhile, Bynum, who was recently suspended by the Cavaliers could be waived by the Lakers in such a deal allowing them to save a significant amount of money. They could also potentially hope Bynum would revert to the successful form he had while a member of the Lakers from 2005 to 2012, assuming they opted to keep him on the roster.

We’ll continue to provide updates on the rumored trade as news breaks.
