NBA trade rumors: Lakers want first round draft pick in trade with Cavaliers

The Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers are in the midst of trade discussions centered around Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum – just one of many NBA trade rumors you can expect in the coming weeks.

Reports leaked early Tuesday morning suggesting the two sides were talking about a potential swap and just hours later, another report hinted the two sides were now ‘deep’ into talks. That’s a scenario that jives with a report from Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer who says the Lakers are requesting a first round draft pick in the potential trade:

I’m told the Lakers want more than Bynum for Gasol.

Another player would be needed to make the trade work on the salary. Supposedly, the Cavs would have to give up either Alonzo Gee, Earl Clark or C.J,. Miles.

None of those players should hold up this trade.

But I also hear the Lakers want a first-round pick.

Pluto goes on to suggest the Cavaliers aren’t overly interested in giving the Lakers a first round pick (understandably) though Cleveland does own the Miami Heat’s first rounder in 2015 which they could be more comfortable parting with.

We’ll continue to update any breaking news on the rumored trade as it comes on.

The L.A. and NY Press always come up with these lame trade suggestions that are one sided for their teams. Trade an older PF/C like Gasol for Bynum (a bum), a couple of scraps and a #1 draft pick, which may be in the top 3 of the draft? This story has no credibility, and I just wasted 45 seconds of my time writing this reaction. Get real!
