The Texas Longhorns appear to be waiting for the college football season to officially end before they go through the process of hiring a new head coach to replace Mack Brown.
After all, the candidates they are rumored to be interested in include Baylor Bears Head Coach Art Briles, Florida State Seminoles Head Coach Jimbo Fisher and Vanderbilt Commodores Head Coach James Franklin, among others. None of those teams have played their bowl game (Fisher signed a five-year extension with the Seminoles on Tuesday).
According to Athletic Director Steve Patterson, the process will be quick.
“We have to be back open for business in the middle of the month once the dead period ends,” Patterson told ESPN’s Max Olson. “The coach has to put together a staff and get up and running, keep the recruits we got and fill up any spots we’ve got open.”
Patterson wants a complete staff in place by January 5 so they have three weeks to recruit before National Signing Day on February 5.
