The No. 5 Stanford Cardinal and No. 4 Michigan State Spartans are battling it out in the 100th edition of the Rose Bowl from Pasadena, CA and the fireworks have already started.
This game features two top-10 scoring defenses. Big Ten champ Michigan State came in ranked 4th amongst FBS schools giving up just 12.7 points per contest while Stanford came in ranked 9th, giving up just 18.6.
After a 7-play, 77-yard Stanford scoring drive that was capped off by an impressive 16-yard Tyler Gaffney touchdown run, the two top-ranked defenses held and forced consecutive punts.
Stanford eventually engineered another scoring drive, this one 6-plays and 69 yards, that ended up in a 34-yard Jordan Williamson field goal.
The Cardinal took their 10-0 lead into the second quarter but the Spartans were driving to close out the first. Quarterback Connor Cook and running back Jeremy Langford helped drive Michigan State for 13 plays and 75 yards and got the Spartans on the board after a 2-yard Langford touchdown scamper, bringing them to within 10-7.
Langford bounced it outside and went in virtually untouched.
