2013 Rose Bowl: Michigan State vs. Stanford game preview, odds and prediction

On New Year’s Day, the 100th edition of the Rose Bowl will be played on the field in Pasadena in a match up pitting the Pac-12 champion Stanford Cardinal against the Big Ten champion Michigan State Spartans.

Michigan State fans have been waiting since 1988 for this moment, and they secured it with their upset win over the unbeaten Ohio State Buckeyes in the conference title game last month. The Spartans rode their way to a 12-1 record in 2013 behind what is probably the best defense in the country.

Stanford is coming into this one looking for their second consecutive Rose Bowl title after defeating the Wisconsin Badgers in last year’s contest. Under head coach David Shaw, the Cardinal enjoyed another stellar campaign, finishing up at 11-2 on the year which included stopping the vaunted Oregon Ducks once again with their punishing style of play.
