Both Brandon Bass and Jeff Green are used to being on the floor during crunch time for the Boston Celtics – especially Green. So when they found themselves nailed to the bench in Boston’s one point loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday afternoon, they understandably didn’t like it.

What made the two forwards go after each other is unknown, but with frustrations mounting, television cameras captured the two players sparring at each other verbally before members of the coaching staff had to separate the two.

Broadcast video appears to show teammates and assistant coach Jay Larranaga trying to defuse the dust-up. Asked after the game about a potential squabble, first-year Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens said, “Disagreements are part of the game, it’s part of team basketball. But how quickly you move on from there says a lot.”

Speculation as to the disagreement has suggested the two players were bickering over the starting lineups performance – or lack of, considering it was the bench who outplayed the starters all afternoon and kept Boston in the game.

Regardless, it appears to be a defused situation – for now.
