The No. 5 Stanford Cardinal and No. 4 Michigan State Spartans are battling it out in the 100th edition of the Rose Bowl from Pasadena, CA and the fireworks have already started.
This game features two top-10 scoring defenses. Big Ten champ Michigan State came in ranked 4th amongst FBS schools giving up just 12.7 points per contest while Stanford came in ranked 9th, giving up just 18.6.
Stanford took its first drive 7 plays and 77 yards, highlighted by quarterback Kevin Hogan connecting with Michael Rector for a 43-yard completion and an impressive 16-yard touchdown run from prolific running back Tyler Gaffney.
After the team’s exchanged punts, Stanford went on a 6-play, 69-yard drive that featured a 47-yard scamper by Gaffney and a 16-yard run by Hogan that saw the quarterback lose the football after getting upended by Spartans’ defender Denicos Allen. Stanford recovered and eventually kicked a field goal, but it was close to a turnover.

Stanford went up 10-0 after the Jordan Williamson field goal from 34-yard out but Michigan State has since punched one in the end zone. The Spartans engineered a 13-play, 75-yard drive that culminated with a 2-yard Jeremy Langford TD run to bring them within 10-7 to start the second quarter.
