As the 2014 Rose Bowl grows longer between the Michigan State Spartans and the Stanford Cardinal, it seems as if the hits that these two are delivering each other are getting more vicious by the minute.
That was no more evident than it was on a Stanford possession near the mid of the fourth quarter.
Down 24-17, Stanford desperately needed a score to get back into this one before it’s too late. So, David Shaw made the call on an end around play to wide receiver Michael Rector.
Rector got the ball, and as he headed around the edge, he got a huge boost from tight end Ryan Hewitt who leveled a Michigan State defender to get Rector a huge chunk of extra yardage:
We’ve seen Stanford pull some plays out of the playbook tonight that we normally don’t see on a regular basis, but they’re going to do that tonight with their backs against the wall.
