Defensive lineman Gerald Willis III is yet another big time prospect in the class of 2014 that hails from the state of Louisiana. He is teammates with the nation’s #1 wide receiver, Speedy Noil, at Edna Karr High School in New Orleans.
On Thursday, during the Under Armor All-American Game, Noil announced that he would be attending Texas A&M in the fall.
Although Willis III wouldn’t mind continuing to play with Noil, he was not going to let that decision sway him and although the Aggies have remained on Willis III’s list throughout the recruiting process, the hometown LSU Tigers looked to be the favorite to land Willis III. The Florida Gators were also squarely in the mix throughout the process.
At 6’3 and 275 lbs., Willis III could play defensive tackle or defensive end, depending on the system he enters.
Willis III is the little brother of Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back Landon Collins. Collins committed to the Tide at the Under Armour All-American two years ago and his mother was famously very upset with his decision.
On Thursday, Willis III announced he would be signing with the Florida Gators.
After he made the announcement, his mother told ESPN “LSU is still #1.”
