Jamal Adams is considered the nation’s second-best safety, according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings. He is also considered the 27th-best overall prospect in the class of 2014 and the fourth-best player in Texas.
The 6’0, 199 lb. Adams attends Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas.
Adams has had interest from just about every major program in the country, but he showed the most interest in the Florida Gators, LSU Tigers, Ole Miss Rebels and Texas Longhorns.
As the process began to wind down, LSU began to emerge as the favorite for Adams with Florida seemingly running second. Florida Wide Receivers’ Coach Joker Phillips is Adams’ godfather, so Adams would have a nice support system if he decided to join the Gators.
However, Adams went with his hometown team and chose LSU with the help of his eight-month old niece, who sported an LSU dress while sitting on Adams’ lap.
Adams told ESPN’s Dari Nowkhah that he felt “most comfortable” with Les Miles and the Tigers.
LSU has been a premiere destination for defensive backs recently. They’ve turned out big time NFL players like Tyrann Mathieu and Patrick Peterson of the Arizona Cardinals and Eric Reid of the San Francisco 49ers.
