FC Dallas swingman Brek Shea has been making a major splash abroad. Shea is currently on loan to Football League Championship side Barnsley and delivered on his debut in their 1-1 draw with Birmingham City. Shea put two of four shots on frame, drew a good save just past the half hour, and curled in a cross that should have been finished in the first half.

“Brek Shea came into the team and had a fantastic 70 minutes or so,” Tykes manager Danny Wilson said after the match. “He’ll be a big threat for us going forward. We only got his name on the team sheet at two minutes to two!

“I was very happy with what I saw. I thought throughout the 90 minutes we played well. The lads were fantastic and got hold of the ball again and controlled it for large periods. Maybe it was a lack of composure or anxiety when we snatched at a few chances but the chances were there.”

Wilson, however, thinks that the Tykes will gain some more depth to back Shea up.

“We’ll recruit one or two more, hopefully, and that will give us a better chance. But on the performance today you can’t take anything away from the lads. We showed a great resilience,” Wilson added.

Meanwhile, at home, Zach Loyd was officially signed to a new deal with the Hoops. As per league and club policy, the terms of the new deal were not disclosed. Loyd appeared in 111 of the club’s 132 MLS regular-season matches in the past four seasons, second only to Jair Benitez (114). The North Carolina product has scored three goals and added seven assists in 102 starts.

“It was always a priority for FC Dallas to sign Zach to a new agreement,” said FC Dallas Technical Director Fernando Clavijo. “It was not until the season was over that we started to make progress. Zach has been a big part of FC Dallas for the last four seasons and we are ecstatic to have him back.”

“I’m excited. I’ve been there four years now, so I really feel like part of the family,” Loyd told FCDallas.com’s Daniel Robertson. “I’m excited for the new season and for the things to come at FCD. I think we’ve got a good group of guys and going forward with the group of guys we have, we can turn things around and have a good 2014.”
