Miami Dolphins considering firing Jeff Ireland, Mike Sherman

Despite a late season collapse from the Miami Dolphins and a major distraction inside of the locker room, head coach Joe Philbin is expected to retain his job. However, team owner Stephen Ross is unhappy with the way the season played out and he could still be looking to make some changes.

From the Associated Press:

Ross has been meeting with his top advisers before deciding whether to fire anyone, two people familiar with the situation said.

One of the people said the meetings began Sunday night and will resume Thursday, and a decision could come then. That person said that during the Dolphins’ loss Sunday to the New York Jets, Ross became so upset he turned away at one point because he could no longer watch.

According to the AP report, the most likely men to be fired from Miami are offensive coordinator Mike Sherman and general manager Jeff Ireland.

If Ireland were to be fired, the fan base would likely rejoice.

We will have to wait and see whether or not those Dolphins fans wishes will come to fruition.

Talent has a long way to go as far as the Dolphins are concerned but coaching is what lost those two games. If Ross fires Ireland what respected person would take the job with a HC already in place? GMs are usually hired to over see the football side of the franchise but with the Dolphins, who knows who does what and where. Philbin and Ireland, answer only to Ross. If Ross was a football man, which he’s not, he would hire an experienced GM with the power to hire and fire coaches as needed and this GM would have power over hiring an experienced Football Personal man to run and execute the draft. “Experience” being the #1 qualification. Ireland has drafted some talent but most of his draft picks fall harmlessly to the way-side. Dion Jordan has not been used at all, so how do the coaches know what they have? I don’t believe Philbin has an idea of how to use Jordan. The 3rd pick of the first rd and they don’t know what to do with him. Thats not on Ireland. The entire team falling on their collective ass’s,,,,, is not on Ireland. Ive been a Dolfan since 1965 and Ive never seen a complete team collapse as witnessed in the Buffalo, Jets games. Thats not on Ireland.
