The Chicago White Sox and left handed reliever Scott Downs were able to agree on a deal back in December but nothing could be made official until after he passed his physical.
Well a couple weeks later and now the deal between the White Sox and Downs can be finalized. The contract will be a one year deal worth around $4 million with a $4.25 million club option for the 2015 season. An option that will more than likely be picked up.

So with Downs in, the team has designated left handed pitcher Santos Rodriguez for assignment. Rodriguez psoted a 4.91 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP in 47 2/3 innings of work between Chicago’s Double-A and Triple-A affiliates. He could go unclaimed and end up back at the Triple-A level to start off 2014.
