Fran Dunphy and the Temple Owls were already short-handed due to injuries and defections, and now, they will be down another player for the foreseeable future.

Multiple outlets are now reporting that sophomore forward Daniel Dingle has a torn meniscus and will likely miss the rest of 2013-2014 as a result of the injury. Dingle was a good recruiting “win” for Dunphy in the Class of 2012, and he stepped up his production level significantly this season, averaging 6.7 points per game in over 20 minutes per contest. In addition, he was playing the best basketball of his career, scoring in double-figures in each of Temple’s last two games.
With Dingle on the shelf, Temple is now down to just 8 scholarship players (yikes), and with conference play on the horizon (they open in Orlando against Central Florida on Saturday), this couldn’t come at a worse time. It has already been a bit of a “lost” season for the usually strong program at 5-6 through 11 games, and it’s tough to foresee a vast improvement with the schedule about to become more difficult. Stay tuned.
