As the fantasy basketball season heads into the first full week in the New Year, it’s time to make sure your team keeps its resolution to challenge for the title. To help you get headed into the right direction, we’re going to start running a weekly top 10 Pickups post so that you can identify talent on the waiver wire and upgrade your roster for your run to the playoffs.
Each week we’ll highlight five players to bolster your backcourt and five players to fortify your frontcourt. Depending on your existing roster and current needs, these are the players you need to know are stepping up and making themselves fantasy relevant. All players listed are currently owned in under half of ESPN leagues and their ownership percentages as of Thursday are included in parentheses after their name. All stats are through games played Wednesday, January 1.
This Monday, January 6 starts the 11th of this NBA season in most scoring formats. There aren’t any teams with the extra bonus 5th game this week, but almost half the league has four on the schedule. As you fill out your roster for week-long locks the only team to avoid is the Utah Jazz who only have two games on the slate. Everyone else plays the normal three-game schedule, so plan your roster rotations accordingly.
Here’s our top ten for this week starting with 5 guards to grab:
