The big Marvel rumor of the day didn’t involve any major casting on the big screen, rather the companies efforts to expand their product to the small screen. For months now we’ve been hearing rumblings that an Agent Carter series or spinoff ‘something’ was in the works at Marvel. Whether that ‘something’ be more one-offs, a TV series or even a web mini-series, we didn’t know and still really don’t.
But the U.K. gossip tabloid The Mirror (via ScreenCrush) believes they do know what is going on and started a rumor that the show was indeed moving forward at Marvel with star Hayley Atwell in the titular role. All of this rumor hubbub started back with the Item 47 one-off on the Iron Man 3 Blu-Ray and from there it has snowballed into a potential series.
While the idea of expanding another well liked Marvel story into something bigger is an idea that seems like something the studio would jump at in half a minute, the odds of it being real aren’t likely given the spotty track record The Mirror has with reporting these types of rumors.
However, while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ended up being an utter disappointment for Marvel, there’s still the Netflix expansion plan they’re working on and Agent Carter may find a home there, if only as a short film. We don’t know what is going to happen to the story if anything at all, but it’s looking like Marvel is still kicking the idea around of an Agent Carter series and fans will likely flock to it to see if it pans out.
