Penn State to interview James Franklin of Vanderbilt according to Pete Roussel

Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin appears to be in for a busy weekend.  Franklin will coach the Commodores against Houston in the BBVA Compass Bowl at 1pm on Saturday.  Then, if this report from Pete Roussel from CoachingSeach.com is accurate, he will then go interview for the opening at Penn State on Sunday.

Penn State has said they are not planning to waste any time by hiring a head coach.  The school made an announcement that the hire was expected to come in days rather than weeks.  Roussel is not the only one reporting this interest from the Nittany Lions for Franklin, but the interview is a new detail.

Bill O’Brien did a remarkable job in College Park rebuilding a football program in just two years that many thought scandal would damage for a decade.  The Nittany Lions also have a talented quarterback in Christian Hackenberg that could certainly help lure a coach into the job.
