2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl: Joe Mixon commits to Oklahoma Sooners

Five-star running back Joe Mixon (Oakley, Calif. Freedom High) was the commitment everyone was waiting for at the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl and he has committed to the Oklahoma Sooners.

Mixon is the No. 1 ranked all-purpose back and said the Sooners win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl this week helped to seal the deal for the No. 18 ranked player in the 247Sports composite rankings. Mixon could have gone anywhere, but he picked Oklahoma over the UCLA Bruins and Wisconsin Badgers.

But don’t expect UCLA to slow down in their pursuit of Mixon who excels as a receiver as well out of the backfield and there were whispers that Mixon was prepared to pick UCLA earlier in the week.

The 6-2, 200-pound running back earned MVP honors at today’s All-American game and had nearly 50 scholarship offers by the time he finished his senior season that saw him rush for more than 1,700 yards and score 28 touchdowns.

Cale Gundy was the primary recruiter to bring Mixon to Norman where he could be the next great Oklahoma running back for a program that has had a number of them.
