Bat interrupts Montreal Candiens vs. Ottawa Senators game (video)

When it comes to hockey traditions involving animals, everyone possessing even the most rudimentary knowledge of the NFL — hey, who are you looking at? — knows about the Detroit Red Wings and their weird love of octopi. But the plan by the Montreal Canadiens to release a live bat during Saturday’s heartbreaking loss to the Ottawa Senators? Well, that’s just batty!

Bernard Brault of La Presse snapped a photo of a critter and uploaded it to Twitter.

Oh, and there’s a video, too.

Of course, it’s inaccurate to claim the Canadiens planned the bat’s appearance. Actually, the bat is a avid Montreal fan looking to walk-on to the squad. Deprived of a tryout due to his diminutive stature, the bat decided to take matters into his own claws and showcase his skills on the ice sans permission. While he’s open to playing any position, he’d prefer to be either of the wings.

(Sorry, again.)
