Every time there is a head coaching vacancy, Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops’ name gets brought into the mix. After a big Sugar Bowl win over Nick Saban and Alabama, the rumors have gained a lot of steam. Especially with reports that he could accept the job with the Cleveland Browns.
The Ohio connection is easy, Stoops grew up in the state. When asked about the connection, Stoops avoided giving a straight answer one way or the other.
While making the media rounds Friday, Stoops was asked about any connection to Cleveland, and the Youngstown, Ohio, native was coy with his responses.
“You never know,” Stoops told Oklahoma writers.
Pressed on the issue and whether it was speculation, Stoops said, “There’s a lot of that.”
And is that all?
“Sure,” he said.
Stoops had addressed rumors earlier on Dan Patrick’s national radio show.
“That’s something you never know will come your way,” he said. “In life, things change from year to year and time to time, and right now I love what I’m doing and the people I work with at Oklahoma. So right now, it’s not something I’m looking to pursue, but you never know down the road.”
