Veteran outfielder Sam Fuld has been a fan favorite ever since he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for starting pitcher Matt Garza.

He isn’t the biggest guy on the field and is far from being the strongest in the batters box but the guy has a lot of heart. I figured he would be cut loose from the Chicago Cubs organization after having the depth the team did at the time.

When he was traded I was a little disappointed because I was a fan of the guy myself. But I was glad he finally went to a team where he would have some decent playing time and he made the best of it in his first year. Fuld hit three home runs and 27 RBI’s through 105 games played.

His offensive numbers went down since then but he was still a great fielder.

Now according to the Tampa Bay Times, free agent outfielder Sam Fuld remains open to returning to the Tampa Bay Rays after having a disappointing 2013 season.

Sam Fuld is a great defender with a bunch of speed. Somebody will pick him up eventually.
