Despite rumors suggesting a trade was complete on Saturday night, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers still appear to be engaged in trade talks surrounding a proposed deal that would send Pau Gasol to Cleveland in exchange for Andrew Bynum.
Early Sunday morning, news broke hinting the Cavaliers wouldn’t give the Lakers more than a second round draft pick in such a trade, which apparently has lead to Los Angeles requesting young players rather than draft picks.
As Lakers push for assets in Gasol-Bynum discussions, Cavs have refused to include Dion Waiters in talks, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.
Waiters, the fourth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft has struggled with his shot this season but is still averaging a very solid 15 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in 30 minutes per game.
Los Angeles has little reason to part with Gasol for nothing more than salary relief, so if such a trade is to be completed, the Cavaliers will need to offer up a bit more than just Andrew Bynum.
